Bruno Zevi

Bruno Zevi was an architect, historian, teacher, author and publisher. It was a strong critic of modern Italian architecture classicist and postmodernism. Zevi began his classical training at the "Tasso" in Rome high school in 1934 with 16 years where he shared desk with Mario Alicata and Paolo Alatri with whom founded the "Circolo Giovanile di Cultura Moderna".

In 1938 he traveled to London where he enrolled at the Architectural Association School of Architecture and then to the United States where he received his doctorate in high school of design University Harvard with Walter Gropius. During this period he discovered the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and became a strong supporter of organic architecture.

Back in Europe in 1943, he takes part in the anti-fascist struggle in the ranks of the Action Party. In 1944 promotes the Association of Organic Architecture (APAO) and the following year founded the magazine " Metron ", becoming one of the most important theoretical minds of the Italian Rationalism of the postwar period.

Since 1948 he is professor of History of Architecture at the IUAV of Venice and since 1964 at the Faculty of Architecture of Rome. He resigned from his academic post in 1979, having vociferously denounced the state of cultural degradation and excessive bureaucratization of the university.

From 1954 to 2000 he wrote a weekly column architecture in "Chronicles" and later in "L'Espresso". In 1955 he founded the monthly magazine "L'architettura-cronache e storia" that directs uninterruptedly until January 2000.

He was awarded honorary doctorates by the universities of Buenos Aires, Michigan and by polytechnical of Haifa, honorary member of the "Royal Institute of British Architects" and "American Institute of Architects," general secretary "Istituto Nazionale di town-planning" (INU ), academician of San Luca, vice president of "Istituto Nazionale di Architettura" (in / Arch). In 1979 he was elected president emeritus of the "Comitato dei Internazinale Critici di Architettura" (CICA).
